“To be a small part of this long-planned initiative was serendipitous—as a design educator whose research and personal art is exploring technology’s role in design, and understanding that this integration at an early age is critical to the success of our children’s education and their future—to be able to contribute with this educational topic for the kids of my hometown community was super-special. Couple of #FUNFacts:

  • From concept sketches to final install took about two and half weeks(!)—yes this was unusually fast paced, but it was a seamless install because of planning and preparation—she tells her students development and process is integral in design and this a great example of that.

  • The final was the second version; science and tech needed emphasis—she loves her art works but first draft was missing clarity of this.

  • *Super fun fact: the redesign occurred the day before the install was scheduled to start, quick turnarounds are the norm for this profession so she was prepared—she actually thrives on tight deadlines, so it all came together quite well, thankfully.

  • The bulb art in the center was deliberately integrated due to the outlet that is in the middle of this wall—she did not want to camouflage the outlet, instead she decided to use it as the impetus for concept and form

  • Tina began with a grid and taped off a majority of the design before painting to keep the fidelity of the lines in tact, while she loves organic free form, this idea was not that—it was important to mimic the mechanistic form and concept with this structured process approach.

  • Her mother helped with some of the finishing touches and clean up as the clock was ticking—she gets a lot of her artistic ability from her mother, who has a beautiful hand and has always enjoyed painting.
